Very warm morning again. I looked outside and at first it was cloudy so I wear tights, but could have ran in shorts. Oh well, I guess I sweat a little more and burn more calories. I only got a little over 5 hours sleep last night, because I was rebuilding my wife's laptop.

When I woke up this morning I felt drained, and never walked out the door for the run until 7:10am. I was so slow getting ready this morning. But in amazement I really didn't feel tired in the run and had a lot of energy. I picked the pace up a little bit more today to try to get home sooner, because of leaving so late. I ran 10 miles at an overall 6:57 pace in 1:09. I 'm still trying to not do anything fast yet just nice and easy. My knee is still bothering me but it wasn't too bad today. I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

Evening:

Ran an easy 5.2 miles at a overall 7:20 in 38:12 minutes in a light rain. My knee still hurts when I run but it's not an unbearable pain. Should I take a couple days off or just keep running easy and work through it? It hurts the worst going up and down stairs. I had to keep myself from increasing the speed. It seems on night runs my legs want to fly, so this is great training to try to keep an easy pace. This is something I need to work on.

You're running too hard on too little sleep. Make sure to give your knee a break! Good job on the training though...

Ya I know I need to relax a little more. But I really did have to hurry. I had a very important meeting that I needed to attend at work. But I could have ran less miles and ran slow so know excuses.

I'll probably start some type of speed work next week for Ogden.

Sounds like a good plan. I think if you can focus some FAST stuff on a 2-3 days per week it will help you slow down and let your muscles recover on your "easy" days... Good luck getting everything done at work.

Where does your knee hurt? Just guessing from what you have described so far it sounds like patella tendonitis (runner's knee). I would recommend some ibuprofen and taking it easy for the next few days so you have time to recover before Ogden. Cut back (or totally out) for a while (at least 3 days) and see if that helps and get a bit of strength training in for your quads to protect the knee. I would NOT do any speed work in the next week or so.

Jeff - it's on the left side of the knee cap, (not on the knee cap), but beside it.

You could be right about the Patella Tendonitis.

I was thinking about taking tomorrow off, and then see how it feels, or just run 3 miles. If it's not better by the end of next weekend I will not run the Ogden Marathon. Thanks for the information.
