Ran with Barry who is running tremendously well. I ran 13.13 miles at an overall

7:12 in 1:34:28. Temperature in the 20's. I was fresh after not running too much the las

few days. My foot is 100% as far as I can tell.

I watched Boise State win and that was exciting for their program.  Makes ISU football

team look bad.  Their is just not enough talent on the Bengals.

Temperature in the high 20s very nice conditions but a little slick in places.

I ran with Barry and I had to hurry home the last few miles to take my daughter

to school.  I was cutting it close but I made it.  The effort seems harder

than it should have for not running real fast.  We made it to her school right when the

bell rang.  Barry hung with me the last few miles and wasn't that far behind.

-5 degrees and Barry and I still ventured outside today.  It wasn't bad or really

cold other than my hands, but thats always the case.  Barry and I ran 10 miles

together and I did an extra mile. 11.32 at an overall 7:06 pace in 1:20:24.  It's

suppose to be this cold tomorrow as well.  I really need to find a solution

for my hands.  I couldn't find my hand warmers that I bought, because they

seem to work when it's this cold.

Good to see you here!

I think that Alabama is a bit more of a complete team, but I think this one goes to whichever team takes the initiative and is the most aggressive.

Well it was sad to see the Texas quartback (McCoy) get knocked out on their first play.  Even though I thought Alabama would win, I don't think they would have if McCoy could have been in there.  Alabama didn't play as good as I thought they would.

Barry and I  ran outside today at -2 degrees with the wind blowing at 7mph so if you calculate that factor in it probably felt like -7 degrees.  Ran 11.31 at an overall 7:06 pace in 1:20:20.  Another special... we ran up towards the ISU Campus minidome and then down past Davis Track Field and then back on 1st street.   It's really not that cold to run in this weather if you dress correctly and take the seriousness of it.  I double check everything on my body before I walk out the door.  I put hand warmers in my mittens today and that really helped.

Has anyone ever tried the heated gloves?

It's been nice to sort of blog again.  I've been really busy and haven't had time.  Now back to a busy day at work.

Evening:

Did a couple 100m strides last night to loosen up the legs a bit and accelerate just a bit since it wasn't as cold.

I have fun running with Barry and we have great discussions on trying to not become addicted to running because it can destroy your life.  Also discussions on spiritually things as well.  God speaks to his people if their willing to listen.

Nice running Kory I will admit I am addicted to running, but dont see this as a bad thing I have become allot more addicted though it used to be I would start to get mood if I dont run for a week, but now its dwindled down to 1 day off is not good for me, but I still take my one day off a week but I dont like it.

I dont see it as a bad thing but more my body has become used to being trained and this is why it is needing the training, although my husband thinks it more pig headedness, although he understands I need my training as I have started a 16week marathon plan. Anyways happy days :)

From Kory on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 16:07:11 from 134.50.89.33

Sam - I see what your saying and running is definitely good to stay in shape and we need that. God wants us to treat our bodies as a temple and healthy. But my problem was I was only thinking about "when I was going to run next", "Where", "What type of Training run". I was putting it before my family and God. That's why I've had to step back because I have an addictive nature when it comes to something that I want to do well.

If it's all you think about than you have a problem, and I did. You have to have balance and that's what I need. Sam I hope and pray that in your life you have a balance for running, family, and God. That's what I have to work on.

Rest.  Stayed up late the night before excited about the Cowboys winning.  I've made my whole entertainment room into a Cowboys theme so I better like them when they win or lose and I do.  They have a tough game next we, but it's good to see them/Romo mature, and win a playoff game.   I hope they can keep rolling.

Very awesome Church Service today.  My Sister-in-law preached for the first time, and what a spiritual blessing.  I preached regularly at our church in the pass until I let running control my life, but I'm getting back to that spiritual place again.

My daughter goes to her first team's soccer practice tonight after getting her boot off on January 4th. She's been running on it and it's a little sore. Doctor doesn't want her scrimmaging for at least a couple more weeks. She has an excellent coach who will know how to bring her back slowly.

Ran a hilly route up Satterfield Rd. and side streets with Barry today in 33 degree weather.  I ran 4 extra miles after Barry and I split our ways.

On the second to last mile a dog collided with me causing me to fall backwards on the pavement.  I could feel blood streaming down my elbow when I got up and I started to run and the right hip was hurting along with my upper right side by the ribs.  Nothing is broke but sore.  The dog was following me for a mile right behind on the street.  I had to slow down for a car on the street to get to the other side and when I slowed down the dog collided right into my back side.  Apparently he didn't want to slow down.  This knocked me backwards smashing the back of my head on the pavement.  I landed on the elbow and hip.  Amazingly the head is fine but the elbow is cut-up in meat slices.

Ran with Barry today down Pocatello Creek Rd. for 6 Miles. Then we turned on Jefferson and turned on Oak and back to my house.  I've got over 9 hours of sleep the last few nights and that has really given me some productive energy.  Splits (6:14, 6:08, 6:07, 6:12, 6:18, 6:05, 5:58 on the hardest mile, 6:11, 6:15, cooldown 6:37, 7:03)  Finished at 12.3 at an overall 6:22 pace in 1:17.

Good run and my hamstring is a little sore.  Probably from the fall with the dog earlier this week..  I'm still pretty cut-up on my back and elbow from the fall and still ache in certain places.  I've never been an accident prone person my hold life, but it sure does seem like I've been since I started running again.

Ran 20.2 miles today in the fresh powder snow at 30 degrees today.   The first 10 miles I ran with Barry, pretty much whatever pace we felt.  Barry wanted to push the last mile on his mileage for the day so we did that.  I was a little nervous because I  pulled my groin when I almost slipped at mile 8 where my leg stretched out a bit where it stretched the groin.  We started the faster mile at mile 9 and when I looked down at my garmin I was running at 5:04 pace so that was nice.  Barry was just a little bit behind and he did awesome.  After the 10 miles we ran near his house and I just kept going.  I finished at a 7:09 pace.

Had one of our fllex braid stem leak/burst last night at 1am under the upstairs kitchen sink.  Which I was luckily up working on a local business computer that crashed (doing some disaster recovery consulting on the side).  If I wouldn't have been up we would have had a major flood.  It still did get wet because I never discovered or heard it for probably 5 minutes before I shut-off the main water shut-off valve.  It leaked in the heat ducting and got everything wet under the stairs as well as under the kitchen sink upstairs.  We cranked up the heat and the sheetrock and floor is dry, except for clothes and stuff under the stairs.

Anyway only ran a couple of bursts from parking lots to go get parts to fix the problem around 6am.  The rest of the day I didn't have the time to run which is no problem.

Hi everyone!  I thought I would post and let everyone know I'm still alive.  With my work responsibilities recently doubling I just don't have the time to blog my runs.  I bought some software to keep it logged on my computer to do so when I can (very good software).  I do miss everyone and your responses and the wonderful fellowship.  I have decided to start commenting on other runner's blog, but not keep up with mine.  Nobody really commented on my  blog much anymore so really no harm done in stopping.

Really there's no need to blog my runs because I'm not training and just running for fun (most of the time with Barry on the blog).  I have no race agenda this year, and don't even know if I will run a marathon this year.  My work/family  has just made it too difficult to put this as a priority.  I don't need to think what I want but what God wants and what the family needs.

Yes, I've been running I actually averaged 85 miles a week for the whole month of March and 75 and 80 for February.  Kind of funny running that many miles but not training for anything.  I could run a marathon right now and do pretty decent I think.  But I don't need to have goals for myself anymore I'm too old and need to worry about my family.

I will post today's run since I logged in.  I ran 14.32 miles at an overall 7:06 pace in 1:41 with Barry on a very hilly route.  Barry will tell you this is a tough route we've ran once a week.

From Kory on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 02:16:41 from 24.116.159.75

Jeff - Addiction. That's I'll I can say. I've ran more miles this year than the last two years starting out. I'm over 1,100 miles. But I'm going to run the Law Day 10k here on the same day as Ogden I believe. Then I'm doing the Ragnar Relay with one of the corporate teams June 18-19 for fun.

I'm cutting back this next week to heal up.

From Robert on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 16:44:34 from 65.101.172.182

Sorry about the groin pain. I had to deal with that a couple years ago. Self massage was the best, very easy to do using the heel of the opposite hand or foot. Hard to explain the technique though. Take it easy and run for the joy of it. The roads will always be waiting for your return.

From Kory on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 17:54:15 from 134.50.89.55

Where did it hurt you? It seems it's almost the muscle above it or the lower abdominal area. It's been like this for almost two months and getting worse.

From Robert on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 12:13:12 from 65.101.172.182

Yes, same deal for me but over time it also was inflamed throughout my entire inner thigh. It's a complex web of muscle throughout that area and the lower abs. At first I thought it was a hernia, but after some self examination and seeing a D.O. it was determined I didn't have the typical hernia. Anyway, I got rid of my groin pain by massage and stretching of the inner thigh (in that order). I still get some soreness in the lower ab and groin after a 20+ miler, but the pain is not as bad (only feel it after a cough). So it could be a sports hernia (found in soccer and football players), but not many docs know how to diagnose that problem or flat out don't think it exists. I really think my problem is related to my long heavily muscled legs that my lower abs have to bring forward. Just need to lose leg mass and do more lower ab work. At least I can run my daily miles without a big issue like before. I can deal with soreness after a long run. Sorry for blabbing.

Well, I haven't posted for a while because of time factor, and not really that persistent at it.   I have the day-off so I have time today!

Training for anything really isn't going well right now.  A couple weeks ago (April 27) I was tapering for a local 10k (law day race) and I started having a lower back, buttocks pain 8 miles in an 11 mile run (which I limped, or hopped home the last 3 miles in pain).  I contribute the pain from pulling my Honda Law Mower 100 times because I flooded it.  Anyway, I've had sharp pains in my lower back and somewhat in the buttocks/hip area.  I had three Chiropractor appointments last week and that really didn't help, (maybe a little bit).   I also took a break from running for, 4 days and went to the gym and used the Crossramp and Elliptical trainer which doesn't make it hurt.

Finally, I  decided to run this last Saturday, and I was in pain the whole way on the 8 mile torture run.  I tried running again today, and on the 10 mile run (7:54 pace in 1:21) it was extreme pain again in the lower back, hip/buttocks area.  I'm glad God has given me a high tolerance for pain.  It feels like the back/hip is bulging.

The symptoms I seem to be having doing some research come from irritation of the sciatic nerve. It's still a mystery and may also be the piriformis muscle.  I really need to go see a Physical Therapist and see what his opinion is or get an MRI.

I'm current doing some stretches that are suppose to help treat the sciatic nerve.  Who knows, but running right now or waiting to run a fun race is out of the question.

One good this is I got my lawn mower started.  I know you were all in anticipation wanting to know if I did.  I had to take the Spark Plug out because I flooded it and overfilled the gas tank that some got in the Spark Plug area.

Haven't posted for a while because nothing exciting is going on as far as running, just pain.

I went and seen a Massage Therapist and she did a deep massage on
the piriformis muscle in the hip. Which is tight and causing pressure on the Sciatic Nerve that's causing my extreme pain. Needless to say the massage was very painful. It was the most pain I've felt in along time when she massaged that area. I ran 10 miles today with pain but not as bad. Getting better. God's timing.  Almost a month now since I've had this problem.

Kory,

I have been having the same problem with the hip. Here is an article that is helping me: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/1,7124,s6-241-286-289-12630-0,00.html. The other thing that has helped is stretching. One is to sit in a chair and put your foot on opposite knee then lean forward. The other is this one: http://yoga.about.com/od/yogaposes/a/pigeon.htm. I have been adding a twist to it by leaning forward in this position and seems to stretch the muscle. I took 9 days off from running and have been doing these stretches/exercises. I am starting to run again and so far it is going ok. I am still concerned it will come back so have been taking it pretty easy. I hope that it gets better for you! If you have anything that has worked for you please let me know.

This  course for some reason is always the course I run if I'm able to do one city race.  It's the toughest because of the uphill and downhill for the layout of the course.  The course was short at 5.99 rather than 6.2 this year.  I think they moved it up this year or something.  I actually ran past the finish line thinking we had more to run and it cost me 10 seconds, but no big deal 10 seconds is not important in a race.

I was nervous and scared going into the race because of the Sciatic nerve pain I've had, and the fact I've done zero speed work for 6 weeks.  I've really been in some serious pain the last 5 weeks to where I had some thoughts I didn't want to ever run again.  I had three deep massages leading up to this fun race, plus tons and tons of stretching.  I decided if I felt bad I would back off and run with my friend Barry on the blog.

Mile 1 (downhill for .4 than uphill)6:35

Just taking it easy very conservative.  I was feeling out how the body was adapting to the first mile.  No pain the first mile.

2008:  6:28

2009: 6:41

Mile 2
(uphill then rolling)6:26

Decided to pick it up a little more but still conservative.  I was in this race for fun and to not hurt, or try to push and win.  Although,  I was currently in 4th place.

2008:  6:16

2009:  6:38

Mile 3
(downhill)5:30

Okay, decided to open it up a little more on the downhill.  I past the third place runner at this point.  Still no pain.  At this point I felt I could catch the second place runner who was about 300 meters ahead of me.

2008:  5:31

2009:  5:33
Mile 4
(Flat)5:40

5:40 on this flat mile was slow compared to the last two years, but again being injured and not in race mode I really didn't care or was discouraged.  I was glad to be out there running.  This mile went well and again no pain.  Was gaining on the second place runner who was 40 meters ahead.

2008:  5:28

2009:  5:30
Mile 5
(Mostly Uphill)6:15

This uphill stretch is where I've been strong in the past.  I was able to pass the second place runner and the leader was only 20 meters ahead.

2008:  5:57

2009:  6:14
Mile 6
(uphill)7:00

I didn't have as much left as I usually do on this mile of the course.  Definitely lack of training and fitness.  I really slowed down and wasn't able to catch the leader even though I gained.  Then when we turned I went right by the finish line and had to turn back to the finish line.  I thought we had more to run because my garmin was at 5.99.  Oh well no big deal.

2008:  6:14

2009:  6:29

All in all I'm happy.  I really thought I was going to hurt or even if I didn't (as was the case) I didn't think I would run this well on a hard course.

I'm very humbled for God allowing me to do well and stay pain free.  He deserves the credit and glory.  Where I go from here is where God wants me to race.  I'm just not into running a lot of Marathon's anymore, and just want to have fun and run pain-free.  I've had injures pile up to where my perception on running has changed.

You have to look at your life and find what that spiritual importance is.  Running a better marathon time is not going to get me closer to God or really make me happy for the long term.  Will see what God directs for me in the future.

Easy Run.  Another great night of prayer.  God is passionate when we allow the spirit within us to connect to him.  I have a call to be a preacher and I no longer going to deny that.  When you run away from what God wants you to do no matter whatever else you do in life cannot make you happy.  You will always feel miserable and missing something.

Bill Mandler picked me up at 6am and we headed up to the Pocatello Marathon course. We both ran slow for 16 miles, then I started getting a little head of Bill because he had a hotspot on the heel. If you've ever tried to run with one it's painful. God bless him finishing with 22 miles. I really didn't do anything marathon pace wise because my hip still is bothering me and I didn't want to do anything fast. The last three miles were getting pretty hot so I picked it up a bit. I ran the mile before Century hill at 6:54 and then Century Hill at 7:11. Good run for 24.01 miles at an overall 7:34 pace in 3:01. I just wanted a slow endurance run since I haven't done anything over 20 miles since January.

Bill and I stretched at mile 12.5 then we looked like old men starting back up again. It was a good laugh. Bill thanks it was fun running with you. We need to do it again.  Bill is a terrific runner and can run awesome even when hurt.

Nice weather and still sore from the run on Saturday.  My quads are tight and sore.  It would be nice to be able to run free without feeling some sort of pain.  Ran with Barry.  Very warm today.  We ran around Davis field track for a complete mile.   That was different and fun.

Ran down Buckskin with Barry.  I still real sore but he wanted to do 4 minute repeats and a 2 minute rest.  I just decided to do a 4 mile tempo.  Once I slow down then I have the sore pain in the quads from Saturday's run.  I just did the 4 mile tempo after we got on the flat part coming down Pocatello Creek.

6:24 -  easing into it
6:02 - easy but felt soreness
6:02 -  wanted to just stay at MP and not difficult.
5:54 - picked it up because I knew it was the last one.

Once I slowed down I really felt soreness in the quads and hip or sciatic nerve (my lingering pain).

How long did it take you to get over and what techniques you did to help? I'm getting sport massage's and doing all the stretching I've seen to do. I've and it switch sides and really have been fighting it since May.

For piriformis I ended up going on 10d of steroids with no running. It was the only thing that could reduce the swelling to allow the nerve underneath to recover. Overall, I think my recovery to racing was a couple months. I also did alternating hot and cold. That was something my massage therapist suggested. You stand in the shower. Direct the water stream and alternate every couple minutes form the hottest you can get your water to the coldest you can get your water for three cycles. This was my fall 2006 injury... I should start naming them like hurricanes :)

I'm going to start doing the PX90 training.  Anymore, I don't have the time to run races so it only makes since to do something else as well.  I don't have money or time to spend going to other places, because I really have decided to cut back in that area and use it in other areas of fun.

Kory, This kind of injury is tricky bud, I had it years ago and it takes time. It will go away once you lay off only to flare up again. What I did was to ride a bike back and forth to work at a good clip which was about 40 minutes each way, and then every other day I would start to jog a bit on the grass and monitor it carefully. After some weeks it finally went away and I was able to run again all be it only 3-4 miles a day. Still in pretty good shape aerobically however.. Something to try maybe? Get well soon Kory:)

6.23 miles of pain again with Barry.  The Hip still hurting.  Running is not fun right now.  I think running yesterday and not letting the Deep Massage relax my body might have hurt me.  I've had a massage now the last three weeks.

We started below Century on the Pocatello Marathon course.  The weather was a bit chilly and I wore gloves.

No running still at the Utah University Hospital in SLC.  Father-in-law still in critical condition and in God' s hands. We found out that he must have had multiple silent heart attacks, because the doctors have discovered that which caused the blooding clotting around the heart and in turn caused the stroke.  His heart is only working at 20% and the left heart lobe is completely dead.  The techniques to remove the clots around the brain have not worked.  God is in control and our faith in him is our only hope.  Their still trying to treat the clots.  We don't know how much brain damage was done because of the major stroke.

Running wise the hip does feel better.  September 4th till up in the air if I can get in.  But running isn't on my mind right now.

Father-in-law is awake and somewhat coherent.  But the blood clots remain in the heart and brain.  The blood clot is in the Anterior Celerbral Artery http://www.med.harvard.edu/AANLIB/cases/caseM/mr1_t/025.html. Their still trying to figure out how the multiple heart attacks happened. Really no change other than they don't have him sedated any longer.  Still in very serious condition.  We had to head back to Pocatello tonight for work and our kids.

We plan on going back up Friday Lord willing if he's hanging on.  You have to leave it in Gods hands. Were going to take our trailer and stay in the 10 camp site that the Hospital provides.  If anyone wants to run early in the morning on Saturday and Sunday up in SLC let me know.

Running note:  I did run 10.12 miles this morning at an overall 7:10 pace in 1:12:34 but the hip pain wasn't any better after two days off.  I think God is telling me something this year.

Sorry to hear about your Father-in Law.

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 09:51:53 from 205.127.70.66

Hey Kory - Ann called Monday and checked up on your Father In Law. They removed his breathing tube right? That's good news. Strange thing with strokes and brain injuries though. My wife his been working in Neuro ICU's for almost 20 year. It's definitely the final frontier of medicine - the area of practice most likely to mystify doctors. With strokes, you just have to wait it out and be patient and hope the brain heals.

I hope you can continue some of your focus on your training. With us runners, running is not a trivial thing in our lives right? I know in my hard times that running is even more important.

I'm planning on running the half up in Pocatello - maybe hoping to match strides with Jeff for a few miles. Maybe I'll see you there?

Did two sessions of physical therapy and again amazed the PT how well I'm responding.  Walked up and down the hall twice in the afternoon and evening with a walker.  Practice standing up without putting weight on the left leg.  No real pain in the femur or pelvic, but I can feel the lateral and posterior cracks in the ribs.

Tomorrow more of the same.  Just improve each day and be patient for a long time.  Tomorrow will be 6 days in the hospital.  My hotel hollywood.

One good note my wife got me a ultimate grilled chicken sandwhich from Wendy's.  I've ate nothing but healthy stuff since the accident.  They started letting me eat on Friday.  Not eating a lot just enough to get protein and nutrients in the body.  I've ate nothing but healthy things like I said.  I bypassed the Hospital dinner choice which was Roast Beef with Gravy and Chocolate Pudding with whip cream for the Wendy's grilled chicken sandwhich. I got to pick my menu for tomorrow.

My goal words:  Trust in God and improve each day.

Thanks all.  I'm improving each day now that it's day 8.  The PT guys are amazed.  I've actually started doing the rehab exercise today by bending the knee.  Definitely not easy and I will have pain.  I just need to keep the picture in my head that I should be dead.  I'm very humbled and thank you for comments from the bottom of my heart.

My white blood count is still low and their not sure why so I can't go anywhere and have to stay in the house.  I can only have immediate family visitors because of being at high risk for infection.  I got out of the Hospital Monday only because I promised Doctor I wouldn't leave the house  until the white blood count is up.  Right now it's at 2400 and its suppose to be at least 3000.

The knee bends is on my own with no PT helping from home.   The doctor told me today to start doing them.  The first 4 were toughbut I know its a slow process daily.

I won't be able to attend the marathon because of the white blood count or have visitors either until it is up.  I guess I'll sleep-in Saturday.

Able to bend my knee 90 degrees.  Started more of the therapy.  Kept it bent for quite sometime (Why do I feel I'm typing with fragment sentences).  You feel like your ripping your skin out because it's so tight.  Very heavy like a brick to lift.  Not the easiest but I did my best.  That's I think the therapy is so hard for some because your scared you might do something wrong when it feels so weird.

I know it must have been tough for you to miss the race yesterday and after doing it myself I understand why. I would definitely have to place the Pocatello Marathon on my favorites list. Great race, great organization, great people.

It works out well for me. You know, I coach cross country and most of my Saturdays are taken up with that in the Fall, but I almost never schedule a Labor Day weekend meet. So Pocatello will be on my list. Maybe the marathon next year?

We Murphys are wishing you success in your rehab.

Just found out my biological father that I've been close to know for three years is in the emergency room with Chest Pains and had a heart attack.  They have move him up to the East Campus at the no Hospital here in Pocatello, the Cardio Unit.

Now my Father-in-law and Father are in the hospital with heart attacks.  God bless them  I'm very frustrated I can't see them because of my Whit Blood Count.  But God is in control and my faith is real strong.

You have to wake up every morning and give everything to God.  Improve-repeat-improve that's what I'm doing and also praying for my father-in-law and father.

Day 15 Got my staples out and the X-rays on the femur look good. Still very slow recovery with the femur. The Doctor said no weight bearing for, 4 weeks because of the crack below the femur break. They don't want that to crack to continue in the knee. Right now two screws are blocking it to heal it. I have a total of 5 screws in the femur with the titiainum rod. Ribs still really sore and the pelvis still progressing and the swelling in the stomach is still there. Also got the stitches out of the right elbow today. I still have a low white blood count and its got the Doctor baffled and concerned. She's discussing my issue with a specialist from out of state. I will know more tomorrow on what they decide to do about that. Their really concerned if I was to get sick, it could be fatal to me. But whatever happens God's in control.

I'm now working on stretching the femur and expanding the range with no weight. I will improve each day through the pain.

We had a Prophetic Conference for our church and surrounding Churches that started last night and today we had the first service at 10am.  We left there and I finally got to watch my daughter play high school soccer since I missed them all because of my accident.  She scored two goals and they won.  I sat in my wheelchair the whole time and at all the events of the day.

Then at 6pm we had church again.  By the end of the day I was wiped out with getting in and out of the truck and then doing my leg exercises.  I really hit them hard and pushed hard today.  Probably overdoing the exercise a bit.  But it's getting more and more flexible.  You just have to get past the pain.

Anyone want to see my surgery photo's with the rod and screws? I don't now if that's something Sasha would want on the blog.

Sorry for the delayed blog post, but I've been busy with life.  But some exciting news:

Found our ATV' in Smithfield, Utah a lady called the police because they wanted to keep them at her place while they went out hunting.  She saw that the ignition was messed with, and she called the police in Utah in her area.  They looked up the ATV's and found that they were registered as stolen.

I had to go to Logan Utah today and pay the impoundment fee of $320, at the Division Motor Vehicle Department at 179 N. Main  Then drive back to Smithfield and get them at Poulson's Auto.  The only problem with them was the hot wired ignition.  Then we took them back to Pocatello Idaho and had them finger printed.  They already know who took them, because the lady knew one of them.   They are still on the loose.  Didn't get my ATV Trailer but this is a start.

A lot of moving around today.  The ride was too much for me today and I'm tired and sore.

Had my Doctor's appointment and the femur is healing good.  The bone is forming around the rod.  But I still have the crack which has healed a bit but the doctor is being cautious and said no weight bearing for another 4 weeks.

He said I can use a stationary bike, swim and walk on one crutch and take about 6 to 8 steps without crutches.  Well I took about 50 steps today and my shin is pretty sore.

During the surgery that's when the crack was discovered and they were not anticipating it being there.  They were thinking about going up in my knee with a nail to block the crack but knew that would cause running problems later.  So they decided to use the screws and that's why I have to be real careful and not do anything to let the crack expand into the knee, being its above it.

So another 4 weeks on crutches basically and no weight bearing.

I weight myself this morning since I can put weight on my leg every once in a while through the day (well the doctor really once to keep that next to nothing) and I weight  130.5 pounds.  Changing from high fat and protein and not as many carbs definitely does cause you to lose weight if you keep the calories down.

Trying to wear a shoe for the first time on my leg today, but the foot is still a bit swollen.  When I did put weight on the leg it feels weird,  like baby walking the first time I'm sure.  Who knows what a baby is thinking about that first time.

Did about 800 situps last night with the rib pain and 100 push-ups on one leg.  This wasn't easy.  I haven't been doing push-ups and sit-ups for a week now and just haven't mentioned it.  I did about 100 situps this morning and a few push-ups.

Tired and a little sore and cool tonight.  Our furnace isn't working tonight which I discovered.  The blowers are not igniting.  I will call a service man tomorrow.  I tried working on it my with no luck.  I believe it might be a sensor on the blowers.  Probably a system board.

We had that happen to our furnace last fall (blower motor went out) and ended up replacing our whole furnace due to the tax incentives at the time. Hope you can get it fixed for as inexpensive as possible. At least it ins't too cold yet!

From Kory on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 11:24:27 from 134.50.89.33

Jeff - it was the igniter. My wife has a parent that goes to our daycare that works for one of the heating places and he fixed it for free. The part he is going to charge us wholesale cost for, and its not much.

I told him what it was before he came over and I was right. I could have changed it myself and bought the part for $70.00, but he said let him do it and it will be cheaper than just going and buying the part and putting it in yourself. Which I did because I fell down the stairs on my lunch hour trying to work on it. The leg's okay it just felt like a brick the rest of the day.

Furnace is fixed an it was the part I thought is was after looking at it on my lunch hour yesterday.  It was the ignitor.  There was no attempt to start a flame for the blowers to kick in.

I was tired yesterday and went to bed pretty early.  I have a lot going on right now in my accident and lawyers that we've found out the last couple of days.  It's positive and encouraging, but I don't know a lot until I meet with the lawyer's on October 22.

Kory, How are you? I'm so sorry I haven't kept up with things. I don't read too many blogs these days as I don't have my own personal internet connection any more. But I'm so glad that things are getting better for you. How mobile are you now?

From Kory on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 14:58:16 from 134.50.89.33

Steve, good to hear from you! I'm pretty mobile, I just can't do any weight bearing for 3 more weeks. But I might start to do some swimming this Sunday.

Running is out of the question until after December mostly likely January. But I'm doing well. The ribs still hurt but they are getting better with time.

To be honest I don't know if running is going to be like before. I miss it but don't miss the time it took training and will probably just jog to stay fit. When you get your life turned upside down your priorities change. My 2:30 hopes really is a small window, only if God allows.

Watched my daughter in her XC race today she finished 8th out of all the high schools.  Next week is the finals and the top 7 runners will go to state.  The course next week is the Idaho State University course which has a lot of hills. My daughter loves this course and does well on these type of courses.  It's her favorite course so I hope she can excel.

It was hard for my to watch the race.  I had to fight back the tears because I really miss the running.  This is the first race I've watched since the accident.

Did around 800 situps and 200 pushups today. My body does feel pretty toned.

40 minutes of swimming at Gold's Gym this morning.  Two sets of push-ups and sit-ups.  Will see what the evening brings.

My PT friend recommends I swim 3 times a week and the other two days lift my upper body, then rest for the other two days.  Rest! I don't know what that is... but I will do as he requested. I've felt like that's all I've done the last two months is rest.  I will still do sit-ups and push-ups 7 days a week.

Had another blood lab test today.  It was fun blood squirted everywhere with a little bit of a mishap that the tech did on my arm.  Blood was everywhere it was pretty cool.

50 minutes of stationery bike at the gym this morning.  Wore my sweats, hoodie, and stocking cap to get a good sweat in while doing hill intervals.  I had the bike up to resistance 18 for two minutes periodically on the set program. My femur/leg/knee whatever area you want to call it would get sore when reaching this interval.  The bike really doesn't bother the leg when the resistance is lower than a 18.

I've gone to the gym now 11 straight days, either biking or swimming.  The doctor doesn't want me to do any lifting on the leg yet.  Did a total of 9 miles on the bike.

Probably 2 miles but I don't care about the mileage.  This is the longest I've ever done.  I was a little fatigued at the end.  I did some fast fartlek's from what I consider fartlek's in swimming.  Emotionally, through the whole swim I was thinking/visualizing about running.  When your used to going at a fast pace in a sport/exercise it's harder to have fun when you feel like your barely moving.

I'm becoming a pretty decent swimmer.  I won't say fast just decent.

Did 10.5 miles on the stationery bike at the gym. I accomplished this distance in 1:02. Did hill intervals up to resistance 18. Sweat with my hoodie, socking hat and long sleeve shirt on. Very good workout. I stood up putting some weight on my leg. This was not taking it easy workout. I worked hard. Probably harder than an hour swim.

Weight is at 127.  Eating a lot of Tofu, Fish, Crab, Eggs, and Oatmeal, Muscle Milk and vegetables not many carbs.

1:24 lap swim today probably 2 miles.  My leg for the last three days has really been hurting bad.  Almost where I can  barely walk around.  Maybe it's part of the healing process, who knows.  It's been hurting where I've had to take pain killers.  Plus a cold on top of that.

Stationery Bike using the cross country program which is hard hill intervals all the way up to 18 resistance for 11 miles. Did it in 1:05 with the long sleeve Shirt, hoodie jacket and cap and sweats on.  I sweat like un-thawing a TV dinner.  I was worried about my leg bothering me, it hurt at times but not bad.

Then I actually did 15 minutes on the Elliptical for the first time with any running motion for three  months.  I took it slow.  This is my three month anniversary for the truck accident.

How should I celebrate this joyous change that ripped my life apart. :-)

Well I'm humbled to be alive and will improve.

Had to go get another blood test in the horrible blizzard.  I'm tired of all these blood tests.

They closed the University so no work for me.  I had the day-off anyway.  I will take tomorrow off instead since the whole university had it off.

Whooohooo for the elliptical! And the biking. Good job Kory.

I think that the event that this is the anniversary of is your rehab and rebirth of spirit. That you are indeed not only alive but striving is indeed something that I personally am extremely thankful for ... you are an inspiration for many of us in ways too numerous to count.

I can't believe it has been three months already. But at the same time it amazes me how far you have come. I am so happy that you are continuing to improve and that you are still here with us. You always have the right perspective on life and are a great person. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

1:48 Lap Swim no stopping.  Probably 3 miles of swimming.  Mixing up fast and just endurance.  Really wish I could have run outside today.  The leg sore by the end of the day.

Situps and pushups later.

Really starting to enjoy the swimming.

1:12 Lap Swim at the gym.  Leg was sore today.  I couldn't change a flat at the gym today on my truck that happen when I got there.  I couldn't bend down to get under the truck to jack it up.  Tom from TJ Transmission was able to help me out.  Got two used tires with matching trend for over $100.  This will get me buy until I buy 4 brand new ones hopefully by spring.

Situps and pushups later

Rest day from swimming and bike but not from sit-ups and push-ups.  I did a ton of those today. My leg sore from other activities with my kids.  No need to go into detail

Did lap swimming today for 1:12.  I also did a couple laps doing the breast stroke rather than doing the whole thing freestyle.  I have my CBC blood check today.

Side-note  I've been eating a lot of tofu in different recipes and really enjoying it.

Worked till 3am so no gym. Leg sore again. Have done situps and pushups the standard. Doctor appointment: One of the screws is bent that's attached to the Titanium Rod. The doctor expected this because of how active my body is. I wouldn't notice the pain he told me because marathoner's are not average people and can stand high tolerance of pain. He said this is not a worry because he expected it and that's why there is two screws in there. Although it was real sore for a few days and that's probably when it happened. I can start to lift weights with my leg, but no jogging/running for 6 more weeks and that's doctor's orders. I was bummed but he wants me to still be careful for 6 more weeks. Do the swimming and biking still. Do I really need to even go back to running?

Also my White Blood Count is low due to I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.  is when your thyroid doesn't produce enough hormones. The thyroid hormones T3 and T4 help regulate your body's metabolism.  Although it's associated to weight gain... I've actually lost weight since the accident.  That's only due to a strict no carb diet.

Lap swim for 53:50 minutes.  Did about 100m of breast stroke and the rest freestyle.  Breast stroke does take more energy and you use more of the leg muscles and chest. Maybe I'll quit running and become a good swimmer.

Taking the Synthroid every morning now and will see if it changes anything on my Thyroid.

Been almost 100 days since my last run exactly 98 days.  But who's counting.   It's a bummer I can't attempt to jog for at least another 6 weeks.
